![]() The mass killing in a wedding in Wau was July 12th 1965.This was a tragedy the Northernern Adminstration in Wau and the garrison commander found that wedding combining two marriages was the best chance of wiping out Southern intellectuals in single probe and they did. There were similar mass killings in Juba in which over 6000 were killed when the military went on rampage killing and burning down the city and searching for any educated Southerner in particular. The mass killing was planned at the highest level of Umma Government under Mahjuob.The killings were conducted in every town and it continued for several months until the targetted group were all killed or they fled to the bush or took refuge in other countries.An account of all these killings are in the "Viglant " a prominent Southern newspaper. The largest number killed was in Juba and a member James Telar experienced it and he can tell more.I was an Anyanya officer when this occurred. I was a delegate from Aweil to reconcile Cirit Company of Aweil and Gurmou company of Gogrial and Tonj. In Nyamlell all the Elementary teachers and government officials nurses ,veterinary officers and staffs of the Catholic Mission were rounded up at dawn and slaughtered.My father escaped because one of his workers shouted "arabs have caught me please run away... " My father and two others ran away. The following morning thirteen Southerners and a muslim Southern Trader "Musaad" bodies were displayed at ferry on the river Lol. John Ukec Lueth.
